SPECIAL APPRECIATION

Hi Guys, 

After a long journey to finish all the reflection that provide by our lecturer, Dr. Ng there are many thing that I learnt fro her class. For me, her class is the best class although we as a student will felt nervous when Dr. Ng came in the class. Hahaha.. What actually that made we nervous? Hmmmm.. Actually we nervous about the things that Dr will ask in the class. We always stuck when she asked the question. But it is what we learn in the class. We really easy to remember all the things that her taught us. 

In her class, we have to do many tasks that sometimes we tend to stress because we need to finish other subject too. But this how we learn to effective student and multi tasking student. There are many thing that we learn in her class. We managed to finish all the assignment and task that give by Dr.

It is sad because we already finish our class. There is no more her class after this. So, I hope Dr will always in good health and happy always. Always remember us!

5 Things That I will Take Note When I'm In Teaching World

We meet again, guys!!! This week I felt confused on something and many things happen that I’m unexpected about it. Stay strong my heart!

So, today I’m writing about 5 things that I will take note when I’m in teaching world after 12 weeks of pedagogy class. I think I’m really had fun in this class and I felt so sad after finish this class. There is no more an excellent lecturer that always ask question until I’m stuck to answer it.

First, I need to understand my student. I need to be in student shoes to understand them. It is very important to understand the student very well because it is show how concern we are for them. Try to understand their feeling and their behaviour. When I’m already understand, I think it is very easy for me to control my student. For example, if I understand that Ahmad is someone who really hate when someone scored him directly, so I need to use others way when I need to tell him what he did is wrong. Maybe I can try to talk softly to him.

I think preparation is very important that I need to take note when I’m in teaching world. Everything that we do need to prepare it first before we do it. It can help us to fix what we are going to do. In teaching, we need to prepare what topics that we want to teach. We also need to prepare how we going to delivered the information. What kind of method that we want to use? Also, we need to think the suitable activity that we can do in the class to attract the student. So, preparation is really needed during teaching process.

Then, patience is one of thing that I need to take note. Patience is included in how we control class management. It is very hard for us to control the class. Sometimes, student behaviour always minimize our patience limit. So, we need to have patience to control the class. We also need to find ways how to handle the class.

Teacher professionalism is needed in teaching world. As a teacher, we need to have professionalism in teaching and learning process. Professionalism is we need to act as a teacher and try to control our emotion and behaviour. Never bring the problem that we had during the class. never broke down the student mood with your problem. One thing that I remember from my lecturer, Dr. Ng is never show your bad mood in the class although you have confronted with a big problem. Try to be actor or actress in the class as happy person and focus what we are going to do in the class.

Finally, we need to know what is priority in the class and we need to have passion to achieve the objective. We know already that our priority is our student in the class. We need to be active teacher to make sure that our priority get the first-class services. So, to achieve this, we need to develop our passion as a teacher. When we have passion to do it, we already know who is our priority and what we want to achieve. We also will be very interest and strong spirit to teach in the class.

The Best Mock Teaching

Hi guys, we meet again in my new entry.

Alhamdulillah, thanks God. I’m already finish my mock teaching. Yeah!!! Such a new and best experience for me in mock teaching. There are many interesting things happen during this mock teaching. Although it was very nervous for me during my mock teaching but I tried to give all out and my best. So, for this entry, I would like to choose one of my classmates that I’m think that he or she do it very well. For me, Fatin Arina Hanafi is the best teacher for mock teaching among my classmates. There are many reasons why I choose her. I’m really like her charisma and appearance during mock teaching. She really looks like teacher.

Fatin teach English subject in the class. She chooses preposition as her sub-topic for mock teaching. It’s very nice topic that she chooses. It is easy for us to understand and try to act as her students. The interaction between teacher and student are excellent during her mock teaching. First, Fatin use Naruto characters in her class. She tried to make it interesting and had fun during their class. Naruto character are famous among the student. She also tries to make interaction when she asked the class what they see at the slide. She also uses this character when she explains what is the preposition is. The interaction will make student focus in the class. 

Next, I really like voice projection by Fatin. She good in control her voice. She tries to play with the tone of her voice so that the student will not dreaming during the class. Also, its very nice to hear Fatin speaks in English because she has slang. She able to explain the subject very clear. Apart of that, I’m really like the activities that Fatin did in the class. It is very fun activities and she tried to include every student in the class. She also has humanity when some student can’t answer the question, she asks others student to help.

I’m also like how Fatin designed her slide. It’s because it looks very simple and nice. Also, the information is simple but knowledgeable and easy to understand by student. The slide also doesn’t feel confused because she just put the important information by using a simple word. She also put picture to make it beautiful.

In conclusion, I think I need to apply it in my teaching process. It is good to be act like her. Also, a big applause to her and my classmates because everyone do it very well despite all nervous and first experience. I hope this experience can make me improves my teaching style.

Experiences During Mock Teaching Preparation

Hello guys.. Nowadays, the weather is bad..Hope all of you in good conditions..

Today I would to write about my experiences during mock teaching preparation. Yes, such a tired day for me in preparing mock teaching. There are many new things that happen during preparation. But it helps me to be more creative and knowledgeable. 

First, I need to choose what the topics that I’m want to teach in mock teaching. I need to find a suitable topic because not all my friend in my class know about economics. Some of them are from science stream. So, I need to choose topics that is easy for them to understand about it. Then, I need to be careful when designing my lesson plan. It must be achievable by the student that I’m teach. I need to know what the school of thought that I need to choose. It must suitable with the teaching and learning process. For example, I used behaviorist school of thought because they need to follow my instruction systematically because it was fact and some of it have calculation.

Next, I need to boost my idea to find what the activity that I want to make it in the class. I need to use my critical thinking to make sure the activity will attract the student and they have fun during the activity process. I must reorganize the activity to make sure the student can do the activity. To make the activity, I need to play it first to see the progress of the activity is smooth and relate with the topics. I also to find way to hook the student to focus in the class. So, I should find lesson material to make the student feel interest to learn about it. For example, I can use video on YouTube and play it in the class.

I also to make research what the thing that I can use in the class. Maybe I can use technology in the class. Also, I need to make the slide presentation look attractive. I need to find a picture that related with the topics. It very difficult to find the picture that relates with topics. I also need to use my money to buy teaching aids like manila card, marker, color paper and so on. I also need to do by myself the materials that I need to use in the class.

I think to be a teacher is very hard. There are many things that I need to do. I also must be in student shoes. I need to use creativity in designing my class. Yeah, that's all that i want to share with you guys this week.

8 Rules Effective Use Of PowerPoint For Teaching & Learning

I'm back again...

Like I promised in the latest entry, today I will post up my new entry. It is about the 8 rules to effective use of PowerPoint for teaching and learning. Although in government school mostly used whiteboard as a teaching aid but i think it is better when we use technology in teaching and learning process because student nowadays are in technology era and they really interest in technology. So, here are 8 rules effective use of PowerPoint in teaching and learning process.

1) Text size
Text size is very important when you want use PowerPoint. Why? It is because every knowledge or information that you put in the slide show must be clear and can be read by student. If the text sizes are very small, it is very hard to the student who sit at the back to see it. We know that every class have around 25 to 35 student in the class. Not everyone can sit in front. As a teacher you need to consider about your student although you think you can see it.

2) Avoid to use more word
In the PowerPoint, you must avoid to use more word in one slide. Just put an important text that are really need to student to understand it. To much text in one slide can make student lazy to read it and feel bored with it. They also dont know what the important part of the information.

3) Colour of background
The colour of background slide are play an important part in the presentation. For example, the light text and black background can strain student eyes. It is very for their eyes. Try to contrast the colour of background and the words. Also you should care about the student who color blindness that can not see colour properly. Maybe you can use white background with dark colour of words.

4) Transition and animation
What the best part of PowerPoint is it have transition and animation. This transition and animation can make the slide more attractable and also make the student dont feel bored with the slide. But remember, never use it too much. It can be a distraction also and it can make our teaching and learning process be very slow until the student feel not interest to learn anymore.

5) Picture and graphics
The slide will be very beautiful and interesting if it is include with the picture. The picture are one of the best alternatives in teaching and learning process and student also easy to remember the picture rather than a very long texts. But, every picture must be relevance and relate with the topics that you are gonna teach. Too much picture can make the slide messy.

6) Video
In PowerPoint, you can also put the video. The video can be a part of explain for teaching and learning process. The video must be clear and appropriate to use it. Also the video must be relate with the topics that are gonna be learn. Never put the video just to attract the student but use it to 'hooked' the student to focus on the topic that they are gonna learn.

7) Exercise or activity
You can put the exercise on the PowerPoint. It can attract student rather than give them a work sheet. It can save your cost as a teacher if you need to photocopy the work sheet. They also can do the activity at the right times.

8)Design of your PowerPoint\
Because this slide is for education process, you can use appropriate design for student. Try to design it attract the student apart of to make it beautiful. There are many design template that you can use it. You also can download it online if you want a different kind design. Try to match it with the colour. You should consider a right colour because it play an important part too. For example, if you use colour pink it can affect the boy student who usually dont really like pink colour because it is show girlish.

Yeah... there are 8 rules effective use of PowerPoint for teaching and learning. It is very important to know about it. So, as educator we need to learn about it. Peace yo!

Pedagogy Discovery !!!

Hello guys,

yeah!!! we meet again in my new entry. Because last week I didnt post up, this week im gonna post up 2 entry. For last two week, I was discovered many new thing in pedagogy class. Lets check it up!!!

There are many things that I was discovered by last two weeks in pedagogy class. If you think to be a teacher is an easy job, you re wrong! Why? There are many thing teacher needs to think before start teaching and learning to process. For example, what the student gonna learn and how to attract students to focus on the class. Also in the last class, my lecturer also advised us to have a projector, pointer pen and speaker by our self. These things are used as a teaching aid in the class. Although in every school has this teaching aid, but it is limited. As a teacher we need to try to fulfill the student needed to provide a better and modern teaching and learning process. I’m also discovered that every lesson plan needs to be perfect for each class. Its means that the lesson plan should be discovered in depth. In the lesson plan, we need to put all the things that we as a teacher want to do in the class. For example, the activity after each lesson that used to measure student understanding. In the lesson plan, the objective should be able to be covered with the time stated. Never be too short or long, during teaching and learning to process. In my last entry, I’m already posting the mistakes that usually do during designed the lesson plan. You can check it on my latest entry!

In the last class, I’m also discovered new things about slide show and presentation. Everyone usually thinks that presentation and slide show were easy to create and do. But it needs an appropriate idea when to create the slide show. First, you need to discover who is your audiences, which is included with their age, gender and their interest. When you use a slide show as a teaching aid, you need to create it properly. For example, for the Economics subject we know that student from the upper form will learn it. So you must create it with suitable with their ages. You can't put cartoon images on your slide if you think it can attract the form 4 students. The cartoon picture is suitable for lower form and primary student. Instead of use, picture of European or Asian, you should put pictures of Malaysian because it is related to the real case.

In designing the slide show for teaching and learning process, you must know how to use slides that can attract the student. You must know how to use the slide show excellently. You can use animation or transition. It gives a fun vibe to the student. Also, we can add colorful design to make it more attractive. With the colorful design, it didn’t look bored. Although the slide just you as delivery information, we can put the question to the topic that we cover in that time. During teaching process, the teacher can make student to be active learning rather than just use it as directs instruction. It will also engage the student with the topic that was covered. Never make the slide look dull because it can bring the student mood down.

In conclusion lesson plan and slide show is very important part during teaching and learning to process. We can measure our delivery information or knowledge is successful with it. As an educator to-be, I need to learn and practice to design the lesson plan and slide show to be more attractive and achieve the objectives. We need to be more creative and use critical thinking to burst the idea to bring a better education to the student.

Oh No!!! I need to start thinking what I’m gonna do for my mock teaching... OMG

Mistakes in Designing a Lesson Plan

Hi guys!! We meet again.

Last week and throughout this week was the busiest week for me. There are many thing that i need to handle beside the assignment, forum and tutorial. I am very busy with the activity club and the program that i involve in it. Also, I am starting to do business in getting experience and gain profit. So for this entry I am gonna write about my reflection on mistake when designing the lesson plan.

Do you know what is the lesson plan? I think all the teacher and educator to-be will know about the lesson plan or we call it as ‘Rancangan Pengajaran Harian’. Based on Wikipedia, lesson plan is  a teacher's detailed description of the course of instruction, or 'learning trajectory' for a lesson. A daily lesson plan is developed by a teacher to guide class learning. Details will vary depending on the preference of the teacher, subject being covered, and the needs of the students. So, we know that lesson plan is use as a guide for teacher during teaching and learning process.

To have an effective class during teaching and learning process, we need to have an excellent lesson plan and apply it in the class. Not just make a lesson plan but did not apply it in the class. Such a waste! If you want to be a best teacher never skip or ignore about lesson plan. As i said before, ‘Teacher is NOBLE job’. From what i have learned last week in the pedagogy class, I would write 4 mistake in designing a lesson plan. Lets dig up!

First, the objective that we put in the lesson plan is not actually been apply in the class. In designing the lesson plan we need to think about the objective first. The objective will be a measurement tool in teaching and learning process. If you put 3 objective in the lesson plan for 40 minutes class, you need to make sure that we achieve the objective. Never put the objective that you know it cant be achieve between the times. As a teacher we know either we can achieve it or not.

Next is plannning too much or too little. For the lesson plan we need to be accurate with what we want to teach. Do not squeeze all the topics in the one time. It can not achievable. You can split it between the other time. Its very important for the student to get what we teach. If you plan it too little, we know that it can waste the time. For example, you already done teach in the class and still have 20 minutes before the class end. Its impossible for teacher to give an order to the student to do anything. It is really an appropriate although i know the student will likes it (because I am also a student). Hehehe...

In lesson plan, we need to put learning material that we want to use in the class. We know right how we gonna use the materials in the class. But do not over on material that are gonna be use. Do not put the material just to make it "wow" but we actually do not use it. What we get if we put something that we do not use? It can waste your time to write it. 

Lastly, the student activities. As a teacher we create what the activities that the student will do in the cl;ass in the lesson plan. But the mistakes that we do, is we put the student activities in the lesson plan is not direct and effective ways to the objective that we create in the lesson plan. For example, we teach about supply and demand but we give the activity that do not related with supply and demand. So the student activity is not suitable because it is not based on the objective that we want to achieve. Please do not make activity just to kill the times with the student. The student activity is one of tool in knowing either they understand or not. 

In conclusion, lesson plan is very important in teaching and learning process. We need it as a guidelines. We need to create a lesson plan that we can achieve it and suitable for student. Never make the lesson plan just to give the principal to check it but we need to apply it.

3 Types of Pedagogy

 Hi guys!!!

For my reflection 2, I will write about 3 teaching pedagogy or method which I would apply for a Form 4 class. As usual I will explain it with using an example for Economics subject.

First of all, I would like to give a definition of pedagogy. Pedagogy is the method and practices of teaching especially as an academic subject or theoretical subject. There are many type of pedagogy and it was based on 3 school of thought that was explained by me in the reflection 1. Direct instruction, Team based learning, critical thinking, active learning are some example of pedagogy.

Lets go into deep of teaching pedagogy that I would like to apply for Form 4 student. First, I will choose direct instruction as a teaching method in my economics class. Direct instruction is straightforward teaching method or we can also call it as teacher-directed method. It is means that the teacher stand in front of the class and present the subject. But in the direct instruction they have the step that the teacher need to follow it to achieve education goals.  

As you can see the picture above, I will explain it using an example. For the chapter 2 which is “pendapatan dan penggunaan pendapatan individu”. In this chapter, I will explain first about the definition of it terms. Then, I will teach them step by step how to find “upah benar”. It will includes with all the formulas. After explained all the step I will give some exercise at the whiteboard and the student will answer and I will guide them. For the closure I will conclude all the chapter that was cover today and I will give homework to the student. Lastly, the student need to submit their homework so that I can assess the student progress. I think the direct instruction is an effective teaching method for form 4 student who just exposed with new subject. It will make them easy to understand with the step that I was provided and follow it to solve the problem.  As a teacher, I can see their progress after they submit their homework and explain it again if they don’t understand it.

Teaching with cases is present student with real life problem and enables them to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real life situations. It will exposed to the student with the real example. So they will easy to understand because it was real and happen in real life. In learning it is very important if they can see the actual thing. For example, in Economics system there have 4 system which is capitalism, command, mixed and Islamic economy. I can explain them what the country who applied this economic system. For mixed economy, I can choose Malaysia as an example for them. Malaysia promotes freedom to do business to the individuals while at the same time it involves government intervention. So the student will see the examples around them. It can help them to boost their knowledge and understanding about it.

Collaborative learning is two or more student will form a group to work together. They will responsible as a individual and also group. In the group, the student will get different kind of ideas and their knowledge will gain more. They will not shy if they work in the group rather than in the class if they want to ask something. They will discussed about the topics and brainstorm their ideas. They will not feel hard to find the ideas because they work together. For example, I want they to fine more about the economic systems and give example for each of them. So the student will form a group and work together to find an example of it.

In conclusion, as a teacher we need to variety our teaching method so that the student will be feel interested to learn. With different kind of teaching method it will help student to more understandable because every student have different style in learning.

Behaviorist School Of Thought

HI guys!!!

I will update my reflection 1 today!!! Enjoy my post =)

There are three school of thought can be use in pedagogy methods which is behaviorist, cognitive and humanistic. If I am a teacher, I will choose behaviorist school of thought to practice in my economics subject class. Behaviorist school of thought can be explained that behavioral cause by the environment rather than external forces. Its means how the environment can influence in our behavioral.

Why I want to practice behavioral school of thought rather than humanistic and cognitive? Nowadays, the school system in Malaysia mostly used behavioral school of thought. Behavioral is follow or imitating steps or process from the teacher procedure. As I mention earlier that I will teach Economics subject that particularly has some calculation. I think it is easy for student to follow the procedures that I guide for them. There are many advantage from this school of thought. First, I can shape the student behavioral quickly. For example, as a teacher I need to be punctual to come to the class so the student will know that they need to punctual too because they know that Economics class will be start on time. Next, the student will adapt with the environment. For example, after my class I will give 2 pages exercise, so they have to adapt that after my class they will get 2 pages exercise. When we use behaviorist school of thought their behavior can be measured. For example, I can use test or pop quiz to measure either they can solve the problem correctly or not. Actually the student can be changed and controlled.

IVAN PAVLOV

Ivan Pavlov is one of the philosopher  in behaviorist  school of thought. Ivan Pavlov create an experiment about the dog and bell. In this experiment, Ivan Pavlov wanted to see whether external stimuli can affect the salivation process. Ivan Pavlov will ring the bell when he give a food to the dog and the will salivate when the dog see the food. After a while with a same situation, then he bell without a food and the dog will salivate although it didn’t has a food. Ivan Pavlov this learning as a process “conditioning”. From this experiment we know that the environment can influence behavioral.

In conclusion, if  I practice this school of thought,  I think it can change the student behavioral. For example, in my class there are no student will be excuse from solve the problem that I give. So the student will know that they need to solve the problem that I give to them.

Here we go!!!

I am newbies here!!!

Hi everyone, my name is Nur Madihah Rusli and  from Kuala Terengganu. I am taking Bachelor of Education (HONS) majoring in Economics. I am very enjoys to read a novel and watching movies. I also like to hangout with my friends to enjoy the nature.

2 years from now, I will become an educator or teacher to-be. I always heard from my school time until now that I am very suitable to be a teacher although I'm not interested about it. But I always think that teacher is noble work. Without a teacher they will not have a doctor, lawyer, engineer and others. After I was exposed with teacher life it feel very fun and interesting to be a teacher. Because I am majoring in Economics, so I will be an Economics teacher. For me to be a teacher you need to have a good personality, kind, and most importantly patience. It is because you need to handle different kind of student.

How i get involved in education study? After SPM, I apply to the IPG and also some scholarship. Then I get interview with IPG and Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (YPPB). During interview with YPPB I apply for Bachelor of English and Bachelor in Journalism and Broadcasting. I have no thought to apply in education. After a few weeks, YPPB had call and offered me to take Bachelor of Education. After I discussed with family and accept the offer from YPPB. Now, I in second year in Bachelor of Education. Wish me luck guys!!!

    

During my study, I really like this quote from Marva Collins. Marva Collin is an American educator. From this quote, I know that teacher is very hard work. During school time, I can see the teacher who are really make this quotes useful. I am also want to be like that. The good teacher never make down their student and try their best to teach them. I really poor in Geographic during Form 3 but my teacher always try their best to teach me and the result is good. I really thankful to this teacher. So, I want to be good teacher like her.
